Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1

Arrival in Kolkata – Foundations of Street Photography

On arrival in Kolkata, you are welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The afternoon begins with an orientation session covering visual ethics, camera readiness, and narrative intent. This sets a shared framework for documenting daily life with cultural awareness and compositional discipline.
Later, a guided street photography walk through Dalhousie Square introduces colonial architecture, administrative life, and layered street scenes. The focus remains on framing, human movement, and light behaviour within dense urban environments, concluding with a short review discussion.

Day 2

Mullick Ghat – The Morning Bloom

The day begins before sunrise with a 5:00 AM departure to Mullick Ghat Flower Market, one of India’s most dynamic wholesale markets. As daylight emerges, the market fills with colour, motion, and high-contrast scenes shaped by marigold garlands, labour rhythms, and river-side activity.
Guided shooting focuses on managing exposure, movement, and colour balance under fast-changing light. Attention is given to respectful interaction and spatial awareness, allowing photographers to work confidently within a crowded, active environment before returning for rest.

Day 3

Kumartuli & Transfer to Varanasi – From Craft to Ceremony

The morning is spent in Kumartuli, home to generations of clay idol-makers. Inside narrow workshops, artisans sculpt religious figures using river clay, straw, and hand tools. The photography focus centres on texture, hands at work, and storytelling through detail rather than wide scenes.
In the afternoon, you transfer to the airport for your flight to Varanasi. Upon arrival, you proceed directly to the ghats to photograph the evening Ganga Aarti. Fire rituals, chanting, and synchronized movement offer dramatic lighting conditions, requiring careful balance between documentation and discretion.

Day 4

Sunrise on the Ganges – Portraits and Presence

Before dawn, you board a boat for a sunrise photography session along the Ganges. The gradual light reveals pilgrims, priests, and ritual bathing, creating layered compositions shaped by mist, reflection, and movement.
The session emphasises portraiture, visual consent, and respectful distance. Photographers are guided on how to approach sensitive moments with restraint while capturing authenticity. The morning concludes with a debrief focused on sequencing images into narrative sets.

Day 5

Lanes, Ashrams, and Low-Light Mastery

The day moves into Varanasi’s narrow lanes, known locally as galis, where daily life unfolds within confined spaces. Photography sessions concentrate on spatial composition, framing through doorways, and working with limited natural light.
Later, visits to ashrams and silk-weaving workshops provide opportunities for low-light photography. An expert-led session covers shutter control, noise management, and storytelling in dim environments, concluding with a group review of selected frames.

Day 6

Final Review & Departure

The morning begins with a structured image critique session. Participants present a curated photo series, receiving feedback on composition, sequencing, and narrative clarity. The focus remains on growth, consistency, and editorial thinking.
Following the review, you are transferred to the airport for departure. The tour concludes with a complete photographic body of work shaped by culture, light, and purposeful storytelling.
